COMM111Speech Communication
This course teaches students the basics of giving a speech. Don't worry. Speeches are not given online. Students are required to come to campus three times during the term to give speeches.
COMM201Introduction to Communication
This course introduces students to the basic concepts and contexts of communication. Students get a comprehensive survey of the various dimensions of the study of communication.
COMM275African-American Communication
Study of various dimensions of communication pertaining specifically to African-Americans. Communication patterns within the African-American community as well as communication patterns about that community are analyzed.

COMM305Introduction to Mass Communication
This course teaches students to consume media in a thoughtful manner, to understand the power of the media, to analyze media content critically, and to be able to discuss the concpet of media literacy.
COMM315Introduction to Interpersonal Communication
This course is an introduction to the study of interpersonal communication. Students learn about the concepts and variables that come to play during dyadic interactions.
COMM316Research Methods
Students get a survey of research methods used in the study of communicaton. The goal is for students to learn how to consume research in a critical fashion.
COMM319Debate
Prerequisite: COMM 111 or faculty consent. Principles and techniques of preparing evidence and of persuasive communication to be presented before critical audiences.
COMM324Communication and Gender
The course examines how gender identities, roles and norms have been structured within different modes of commuunication (e.g., interpersonal, mass media and institutional).
COMM327Mass Media Processes and Effects
Theory and research pertaining to the effects of various mass media. Topics include advertising, journalism, educational programming, violence, and pornography.
COMM421Communication Technologies
Prerequisite: COMM 305 or faculty consent. Note: Approved for the Arts and Sciences upper-level requirement in written communication (WR). Exploration of the social role of communication technologies with an emphasis on electronic media.
COMM430Health Communication
Prerequisite: COMM 201 or consent of instructor. Note: Approved for the Arts and Sciences upper-level requirement in written communication (WR). Nature, function and importance of communication in health care delivery. Applies communication theory and skills to health contexts.
COMM440Intercultural Communication
Prerequisites: COMM 315. Note: Approved for the Arts and Sciences upper-level requirement in written communication (WR). Survey of theory and research pertaining to problems of cross-cultural communication, including cultural, national, ethnic, and racial divisions.
